To begin with this recipe, we must prepare a few components. You can cook sauteed brussels sprouts using 5 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to make Sauteed Brussels Sprouts:
  1. Make ready 1 1/4 lb fresh Brussels Sprouts
  2. Make ready 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  3. Make ready 1/2 tbsp olive oil
  4. Prepare 3/4 tsp garlic salt
  5. Prepare 3/4 tsp Mrs. Dash Original Seasoning (salt-free)

Set a large skillet—preferably cast-iron—over medium-high heat. (The skillet should be large enough that the halved sprouts can lie in a single layer. I served these to a room full of Brussels Sprout haters…. they were shocked that the side dish they were raving about was actually a food they thought they disliked! The majority of the preparation work comes in removing the core and pulling the Brussels sprout layers apart. Cut off any remaining stem and slice in half.

Instructions to make Sauteed Brussels Sprouts:
  1. Rinse Brussels Sprouts.
  2. Cut off the ends, slice sprouts in half and remove outer layer of leaves.
  3. Melt butter and olive oil over medium high heat in a large non-stick frying pan.
  4. Add sprouts, garlic salt and Mrs. Dash. Stir to coat.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon of water to the frying pan and quickly place lid on pan. Let steam for about a minute then stir sprouts. Continue intervals of covering pan and stirring frequently until sprouts are tender (about 15 minutes). You don't want very much liquid in the pan; this way the sprouts will brown a little. Add a little more water if the pan gets too dry and the sprouts start sticking. This method cooks the sprouts a little faster. You can just saute them without covering but turn the heat down slightly and cook longer.

In a large, nonstick skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add Brussels sprouts and sprinkle with garlic powder, onion powder, dry thyme, and salt. You can use more or less if you like. Sautéed Brussels Sprouts (with lemon and garlic) are probably one of my favorite green veggies ever. And especially this time of year.
